The art of cartography features heavily in the work of Icelandic born artist Kristjana S Williams. With a keen eye for Victorian art and illustration, Williams has mastered the blending of the old world with the new using modern printing techniques, Williams reimagines the art of the past with a twenty first century flare, creating unique and strikingly beautiful prints. In ‘Alexandra Jardin Wild World’ Williams brightens the traditional world map image, injecting exotic splashes of primary colour onto the Victorian esque cartography of the globe. The map is backed by a light, cyan blue, while the continents are formed out of intricately drawn, brightly coloured birds, butterflies, flowers and tropical animals and the whole is contained within a fun, floral border. Williams has vividly translated the scientific Victorian arts of cartography and natural history into an exciting modern day aesthetic. This print is signed and numbered by the artist.
