Contemporary artists Louise McNaught and Rebecca Mason have collaborated to produce a stunning limited edition print. Combining McNaught’s prowess for depicting the natural world with Mason’s skill for manipulating neon light, the pair have produced a print of striking beauty, both conceptually and aesthetically. A triumph of colour and compositional technique, ‘Bewilder’ depicts a majestic deer, sketched in McNaught’s iconic style, and dipped with blue paint. The animal’s large, imposing antlers trail off into delicately blossoming branches, surrounded by soft blue butterflies, brimming with vibrancy and vitality. Over the top of the image, Mason has layered the word ‘Bewilder’ in steps of pink neon not only creating an inspired double play on the word, but adding tone, texture and perspective to McNaught’s beautiful illustration. Text has been added to the bottom of the print, producing a loose poetic verse that reminds its viewer of the joys of being wild. Ending with the ponderous line “Why, despite being free, so many of us just follow the herd,” ‘Bewilder’ is a truly thought provoking piece of contemporary art. Please note that this is a print only and does not include lights or neon elements
