Contemporary artist Chris Bourke produces beautiful prints from hand made Linocuts. Using clean lines and a predominantly monochrome palette, Bourke archives a certain naive charm, built around stripped back simplicity. His prints are inspired by tattoo art and religious iconography, a pairing that works to exceptional success, centring around graphic patterns, typography and illustrative imagery, to create miniature tableaus and iconic motifs. Using only strokes of black ink, ‘Birds of A Feather’ depicts two, perfectly symmetrical swallows, tilted towards a radiating love heart. The titular words surround the image in banners, for a perfect synergy of graphics and iconography. It’s tattoo art for the page bold, graphic and laced with religious symbolism for a striking piece of contemporary print work.
