With a roll call of artistic influences from Hitchcock to Shakespeare, Banksy to the Pre Raphaelites it’s no surprise that contemporary artist Copyright produces prints of such richness and diversity. With a strong street art aesthetic, Copyright employs stencils, spray paint and brush strokes to achieve his culturally attuned works of art. Commenting on the flawed idealism and unattainable visions of beauty presented in fashion, music and popular culture, Copyright’s images of the female form look back to classicism and myth, producing highly stylised depictions of beautiful women, adorned with flowers, butterflies and angel wings, while maintaining a modern day edge. ‘Daydreamer’ portrays the black and white face of a woman in profile, set against a soft grey background. Copyright employs his familiar motif of colourful bubbles, covering a section of the monochrome print with bright reds, blues and yellows for perfect contrast. Texture courses through the print, from the hazy lashings of spray paint, to the gentle paint drips that Copyright has left to run a strikingly beautiful piece of contemporary art.
