The work of Kristjana S Williams is inspired by traditional crafts of fine art with a distinctly Victoriana style and an aesthetic which recalls Chinese silk painting, Williams depicts vivid scenes and figures from the natural world using contemporary collage and print techniques. ‘Giraffe Gardur’ depicts a tower of giraffes, grazing on a plain. With a tongue in cheek, almost kitsch, playfulness, Williams’ has decorated the image with her signature butterflies, sketched foliage into the foreground, and added plumage to the heads of the giraffes. Where does one image begin and the other end Williams asks, with her use of collage style overlays. The answer may not be so easy, but the end result is clever, quirky and full of character. This print is signed and numbered by the artist.
