Contemporary artist and photographer Donk uses the urban landscape as his canvas of choice, creating exceptional, large scale murals on the walls and shutters of East London. His print work combines photographic elements with hand finished detail for a richly evocative aesthetic. ‘Higher Ground’ is the hotly anticipated print release of one of Donk’s most iconic murals a site specific, expansive paste up that the artist created almost a year ago, under a flyover bridge in Hackney. Inspired by the urban space and its interaction with the slowly encroaching organic elements, Donk created a dystopian scene that explored the poetic tension between strength and vulnerability, innate in every detail of the natural world. The result is compelling an ethereal woman stands atop a tower of debris that is gradually being reclaimed by the wild around it. Donk’s mixed media approach, which blends photography with paint elements, adds an aesthetic power to the extraordinary image, for a breathtaking piece of contemporary art.
