AME72 has made a name for himself in the contemporary art world. Well known as the ‘Lego guy’, AME72 has become famous for his iconic lego prints, and has exhibited in world renowned galleries, museums and auctions, as well as featuring in numerous publications, including the recent bestseller, The Cult of Lego. AME72 describes his work as ‘conceptual pop art’, blending street with pop for an appealing aesthetic with a message borrowing from urban texture, his prints are a twenty first century comment on society’s economic abundance, consumerism and commercialism. ‘I Love The 80’s Grey’ depicts a winking lego figure, kitted out in Adidas tracksuit. With a spray can in his hand and a boombox at his feet, he has been caught in the moment of graffitiing a grey wall with the words ‘I Love The 80’s’. AME72 has printed the figure itself in spray can style, for a trompe l’oeil effect think classic Banksy that’s filled with layers of tongue in cheek allusion. It’s a bold, brash and fun piece, smart in its naive simplicity and brimming with magnetic charm.
