Contemporary artist Ben Frost is known for his colourful post Pop Art paintings. Using a mash up of techniques from graffiti to collage, stencils to sign writing Frost’s work is bright, bold and very often controversial. Taking familiar cultural images a McDonald’s logo or a Disney character Frost injects a little of the explicit and sometimes the unsettling, to create an aesthetic which is powerful and arresting. ‘JUSTONEMOREBUMP’ features a happy, pink rabbit bearing a likeness to Thumper, the cartoon rabbit from Disney’s Bambi pasted onto a blue and white medicine packet that reads “Cocaine Justonemorebump 1 gram.” Aesthetically, the print is remarkably beautiful, in its use of muted palette and its sheer simplicity, with a careful consideration for typography and composition. The visual references blending cutesy with cocaine make a strong statement and one that works to exceptional effect ‘JUSTONEMOREBUMP’ is a triumph of contemporary art.
