Danish artist Lene Bladbjerg creates prints of striking graphic quality. Crossing the line from graphic design to fine art, Bladbjerg’s work is infused with a gently haunting character, as bold type and strong composition dominate the frame. Bladbjerg challenges ideas of conformity through a play on compositional uniformity in ‘Jump In Head First’ 16 pink boxes are spread in neat rows across the print, all but one containing the silhouette of a dancer in motion. A single box bucks the trend, filled instead with the title words, while a dancer tumbles head first down the print, past her identikit sisters in their closed boxes. Brimming with charm and allure, ’Jump In Head First’ is a cute but poignant comment on social expectation, brought to life by Bladbjerg’s unparalleled sensitivity to colour and composition a truly arresting piece of contemporary print work.
