The work of Daniel Mernagh is fast becoming notorious in the contemporary art world. Merging graffiti, street style, with skilled digital techniques, Mernagh recreates iconic figures, past and present, in his own, inimitable aesthetic. ‘Kate 2016’ depicts Britain’s best loved supermodel, Kate Moss, rendered in graphic, spay can style. Turned towards the viewer, Moss, in a soft palette of pinks and yellows, and wearing a dress of deep, midnight blue, is compelling. Like an energetic Pollock painting, the image is awash with messy paint flecks, which merge to emphasise the striking beauty of Mernagh’s subject. A stunning exercise in street meets canvas, ‘Kate 2016’ turns icon into iconography, to unequivocal success.
