Louise Dear is, in her own words, “a painter with a simple ambition…to create beautiful paintings.” Her ambition may be simple but her work is far from it Dear creates her paintings through a plethora of methods throwing, rubbing and pouring materials onto aluminium before distressing the work for an organic aesthetic, rich with spirit and brimming with beauty. Inspired by Japanese art both antiquated and contemporary Dear’s work is driven by colour, and the way in which it invades the senses, and her palettes are always intense and extreme, to electrifying effect. ‘Kiss Kiss Bam Bam’ depicts the head and shoulders of a fabulously glamorous woman big, dark glasses pouting, painted lips shimming gold turtleneck oh and an incredible explosion of pink, blossoming flowers arranged around her head. The piece shimmers with gloss, gold and glitter against the bright, saturated palette, bringing retro styles into the twenty first century with unrivalled panache. The original piece proudly stands 5 meteres tall, prestigiously situated in Timmy Green Restaurant on Buckingham Palace Road, Victoria.
