This beautiful museum art print is of Austrian Symbolist painter Gustav Klimt’s 1895 oil on canvas painting ‘Music I’.The print depicts a woman meditatively strumming a lyre in a black dress. The lyre is a traditional symbol of music and this painting is one of several Gustav Klimt produced with a musical theme. On the right is a statue of a sphinx and to the far left you can spot a mask of Silenus, a notable motif found in a number of Klimt’s works to signify “buried instinctual forces”.The original painting originated from a commission by Greek businessman and patron of the arts, Nikolaus Dumba, to decorate two rooms in the Palais Dumba in Vienna.
