The work of contemporary artist Joe Webb sees a return to ‘analogue methods’ in beautifully retro style. Opting for painstakingly crafted collage techniques, Webb’s work is reminiscent of early Paolozzi, layering together found images and photographs from vintage magazines, to create surreal and often esoteric prints. ‘One Day the Sun Will Kill Us All’ depicts the iconic yellow Pac Man icon, working its way across a black canvas towards the planets of the solar system. The print speaks to the increasingly bleak future that we face with a subtle comment on both global warming and the digital takeover but Webb’s aesthetic is anything but bright, bold and beautiful, this compositionally powerful print is an iconic visualisation of contemporary life.
