100 Cans was painted by hand, assisted by stencils and if you look closely you can see variations in the cans. The repetition of the image and the fact it is cut off the bottom of the page reflect the machine aesthetic of repetition loved by Andy Warhol. When asked why he did so many image of the Campbell’s soup canes Warhol said it was because he had it for lunch every day for 20 years.
