The work of Kristjana S Williams is inspired by traditional crafts of fine art with a distinctly Victoriana style and an aesthetic which recalls Chinese silk painting, Williams depicts vivid scenes and figures from the natural world using contemporary collage and print techniques. Her work explores the use of vibrant colour, clashing different shades and tones for a resultant harmony which is at once compelling and beautiful. ‘Pafugla Straummur’ depicts somewhat abstractedly a large, plumed bird in a moment of dynamic movement. Made up of great, sweeping feathers, blossoming flowers, and a menagerie of smaller birds and beasts, the elegant, winged creature seems to swoop, effortlessly, across the page, brought to life by Williams’ acute eye for bold colour and intricate detail.
