Vina Ralco is the marriage of the Larrain and Vial families and the creation of large vineyard holdings in the Curico and Maule Valleys. An extended family affair of grandparents, children, uncles and nephews with the brother supplying an established winery next door in which to make the wines. The vineyards are in Yerbas Buenas, a sub region of the Maule Valley. Because Yerbas Buenas is closer to the Andes, the climate is cooler and rainier in the winter and summers are less intense. The rocky alluvial soils are relatively shallow, composed of loam and clay. These conditions enable them to craft excellent red wines with moderate alcohol content and exceptional aromatic intensity. The Spanish Conquistadors conquered the Americas, greatly aided by the use of horses, an animal previously unknown to the native population. Large herds of horses are kept in the valley to this day and their presence and history are celebrated on the label.
