Contemporary artist Jayson Lilley works at the forefront of printmaking practices, incorporating painting and collage techniques into his process. His work is known for its urban and architectural focus reproducing iconic structures from the metropolis. His love of modernist, Art Deco and Brutalist architectural design is infectious, bleeding into his own work which is often stark and minimal, with strong impact stripped back palettes often concrete shades of grey complement bold compositional techniques. ‘Primrose Hill’ depicts the view from North London’s Primrose Hill, with the city’s familiar skyline in the distance, just seen over the leafy trees of the park. Lilley creates a beautiful fusion between stark monochrome and subtle washes of colour, for a deliciously Pop Art collage aesthetic. To finish the print, Lilley covers the huge expanse of sky with a sheet of gold leaf, for iridescent texture and tonality a beautiful touch to this celebration of the city.
