In 1984 Andy Warhol produced a series of large scale abstract paintings based on the so called Rorschach test, devised by the Swiss psychologist Hermann Rorschach. Each painting is a mirror image of an ‘ink blot’. The Rorschach test requires patients to say what they see in a set of ten standardized ink blots to give the psychologist a better understanding of the patients sub conscious. Warhol did say he wanted to get someone to analyse his paintings but never did. This large scale black skull like blot is a beautiful abstract image in its own right. The text at the bottom is mirrored reflecting the fact the left and right are mirror images. Image Credit ©®TM The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, Inc.
