In using neon, Mason allows the seediness of the city to seep into the delicacy of her work, which is always centred around typography, offering a slight but profound comment on human existence and emotion. ‘Take Me As I Am’ depicts the single word ‘flaws’, each letter bent from bright white strips of neon light. The eye catching word is set against a black background, onto which Mason has printed a poetic paragraph that sets out the poignant truth that ‘no one is perfect’. The interplay of light and dark is mesmerising and profoundly beautiful and Mason’s message is life affirming a brilliant moment of illumination in an all too often dark world.
