Illustrator and contemporary artist Magda Archer produces an aesthetic like no other. Inspired by all things kitsch and colourful, her work draws heavily on the Pop Art greats, injecting a dose of its own surreal character along the way, for sensational results. Fun and frivolous, colourful and fruity, Archer’s prints are full of an alluring charm that we just can’t get enough of. ‘Wake Me Up For Food’ is deliciously kitsch on a tropical blue background, Archer has drawn a 1970s style desert, of peach slices in a glass cocktail bowl. The titular words surround the image, in retro, cream coloured bubble writing, for instant nostalgic effect. It’s a smart piece both visually appealing and comically endearing, ‘Wake Me Up For Food’ continues the artistic lineage that begun with the Pop Art movement, working kitsch and collage techniques into a contemporary mode to striking effect.
