‘Beautiful Decay’ was first created for a group Exhibition in Hong King called trailblazers featuring artists DFace, Nigel Cox, Pure Evil, Angela Lizon, Soe Sorren, Nick Walker and Sas Christian. The Limited Edition version of the piece has now sold out and Griffith’s has launched it as an open Edition print. ‘Beautiful Decay’ works as a reminder that, in the artists own words ‘we can find beauty in nature in the most surprising of places and that decay, part of the natural cycle is a catalyst for the start of something else new and beautiful. The piece reminds of us of our own mortality and the necessity to seize the moment. The creation of the piece involves layers of fine line drawing in calligraphy ink, then being destroyed with layers of tea and alcohol. This process of deliberate destruction is deployed in much of Griffiths work and the process itself mirrors the theme of much of his work. From out of the chaos and destruction Griffiths creates new forms and shapes which are dictated by the spills and splashes left by each layer.’ ‘Beautiful Decay’ is signed by the artist.
