The Müenzenrieder estate lies in the Neusiedlersee Seewinkel National Park in the eastern reaches of Austria. The Heideboden is a vast shallow site stretching towards Lake Neusiedl, where its sandy, gravely soils are very permeable and extremely consistent, so regardless of bad weather and inclement conditions, the vineyards here produce very good wines most years. This is a full bodied red which can be drunk easily now, as well as cellared for a couple of years. 100% Blaufränkisch. Through natural cultivation methods, rigorous sorting of fruit at harvest time and meticulous cellar work, winegrowers Johann and Johannes Müenzenrieder produce wines which have real character, which is what alerted us when we tasted them. This is a delicious example of the Blaufränkisch variety that Austria does so well. 14 day psot fermentation maceration, followed by 12 months ageing in used oak barrels.
