To create this work Kandinsky products over 30 preliminary sketches and water colours although the final piece was painted over just 4 days. The main theme, which is an oval form intersected by an irregular rectangle, is perceived like the centre surrounded by the vortex of colours and forms. Composition VII was painted at a time of great social upheaval just before world war two and is believed to encompass a combination of several themes including Resurrection, the Judgment Day, the Flood and the Garden of Eden.
