Taking icons form the music industry, Edwards creates portraits using song lyrics, producing works that bring together different art forms in the most seamless of styles. Inspired by a line from the Tom Waits song ‘Swordfish Trombones’, Edwards has penned a thoughtful and ponderous poem, which he has then visualised by transferring the lines of verse onto an original painting. The image hinges around an ambiguous form a large, red explosion sits against a black backdrop, teetering somewhere between a sparkling firework and blossoming flower, but crafted entirely from cursive script. A beautiful meeting of literature and visual art, ‘Silence Violence’ is a profound and compelling piece of contemporary print making.
