This is the flagship winery for the Farnese group of wineries, and is based in the town of Ortona, in the northern part of the Abruzzo, half way down Italys Adriatic coastline, where ripeness and freshness combine. Valentino Sciotti and his team of winemakers, including Filippo Baccalaro and consultant Alberto Antonini, love the indigenous varieties from this part of Italy. Alberto oversees production, ensuring great quality, varietal character and good value. The west and south west facing vineyards are planted on calcareous clay soils, and the vines are trained on a pergola system. Once the grapes arrive at the winery, Filippo oversees a gentle destemming and crushing of the grapes. After pressing, fermentation was in stainless steel tanks at 12°C, cool enough to preserve the character of the fruit.
