Vina Ralco is the marriage of the Larrain and Vial families and the creation of large vineyard holdings in the Curico Valley. An extended family affair of grandparents, children, uncles and nephews with the brother, supplying an established winery next door in which to make the wines. The vineyards are in a sub region of the Curico Valley named Requingua, which means Corner of the Winds, and is 80 kilometers from the Pacific and 60 kilometers from the Andes. The influence of the ocean and the mountains results in the markedly lower night temperatures that high quality grapes require. This day night temperature fluctuation has a positive effect on the development and maturation of aromas and flavours in the grapes. The Spanish Conquistadors conquered the Americas, greatly aided by the use of horses, an animal previously unknown to the native population. Large herds of horses are kept in the valley to this day and their presence and history are celebrated on the label.
