Richard Berner is a Brighton based illustrator, whose work draws inspiration from a colourful array of cultural iconography from Star Wars to Disney, Brighton landmarks to Amy Winehouse, Berner creates illustrations bursting with imagination and eccentricity. With a flare for fine art technique, all of Berner’s ink drawings are brought to life with colour and texture, often applying paint drips and splatters, before the print making process. Revelling in surrealist style, ‘Poppins’ depicts the well loved Disney figure Mary Poppins, redrawn in Berner’s distinctive style. Injected with macabre and Gothic overtones, Berner has reimagined the cheerful character as a grinning skeleton, her clothes all in black, with a pink and white scarf wrapped around her neck. The background is made up of paint drips and splatters, for a raw, textured finish, that complements Berner’s illustrative style.
