Contemporary artist James Bates finds inspiration in the most unlikely of places from junk shops to Disney films, scrap heaps to sketch books, Bates’ wide artistic scope is reflected in his multi media art pieces, which range from illustration to animation, advertising to graphic design. Unsurprisingly, Bates’ aesthetic is singular his prints are bold and fearless, mindful of composition and colour in a striking way. ‘Trust In Me’ taking its title from the hypnotic Jungle Book number depicts a large, metallic gold snake, weaving across the surface of the print. Bates’ eye for graphic design is exemplified in the piece, which is a patchwork quilt of shape and texture circles, squares, stripes, arrows, and spirals make the composite elements of the reptile, as hypnotic in their busy formation as Ka’s infamous tune. ‘Trust In Me’ is a truly striking work of art a statement piece to hang in the home and lift any space.
