Meet Tim Doyle, contemporary illustrator, print maker and king of ‘nerd cool’. Drawing inspiration from a life long love of comic books and video games, Doyle creates prints of inimitable style that incorporate cultural icons from the music industry to art house film into a graphic aesthetic like no other. ‘White Dragon’ takes cult film Blade Runner and creates a beautiful print, in the detailed, illustrative style of a graphic novel. In tones of soft blue and red, punctuated with hard sections of inky black, Doyle depicts the streets of the busy, futuristic city, complete with late night joints, neon signs and towering logos. People walk to and fro, carrying umbrellas to shield themselves from the rain that Doyle has created as a wash of fine, silver shards covering the whole image in delicate, hazy texture. It’s a striking snapshot, filled with painstaking detail, for a compelling piece of contemporary print work.
