Marcelina Amelia is a contemporary artist, working with mixed media approaches to print, painting and drawing. Taking inspiration from religious iconography, folk tales, dreams, sexuality, and the human condition, her work plays at the borders between lust and innocence, creating a beautiful and uneasy aesthetic that is saturated with contemplation and profundity. ‘1984’ depicts a figure in a DHL uniform, riding a galloping red horse. Surreal and esoteric, the print speaks to imaginaries of the dystopian as the Orwell inspired title suggests in today’s capitalist society. With her distinctive, illustrative style, bold palette, and use of striking composition, ‘1984’ is a powerful piece of print work.
