‘A is for Alphabet’ forms part of a set of bold and colourful silkscreen prints produced in 1991, one for each letter of the alphabet. Each print adopts Peter Blake’s typical and unmissable style of working, incorporating ‘found’ imagery from magazines, postcards and popular ephemera. ‘A is for Alphabet’ depicts his pop art influences and inspirations. In the first of the letters in this stunning series Peter Blake depicts the whole alphabet using a nursery rhyme and his enduring fascination with childhood nostalgia as well as VictoriaEdwardian graphic illustration. ‘A is for Alphabet’ features Blake’s love of fairy tales and childhood stories as well as animal illustrations and antique graphics. ‘A is for Alphabet’ is signed and numbered by the artist.
