Richard Berner is a Brighton based illustrator, whose work draws inspiration from a colourful array of cultural iconography from Star Wars to Disney, Brighton landmarks to Amy Winehouse, Berner creates illustrations bursting with imagination and eccentricity. With a flare for fine art technique, all of Berner’s ink drawings are brought to life with colour and texture, often applying paint drips and splatters, before the print making process. ‘Chaplin’ depicts the well loved entertainer Charlie Chaplin, redrawn in Berner’s distinctive style. Revelling in a surrealist streak, Berner has left the figure’s face blank, for a subtly haunting twist, while the background is made up of paint drips and splatters, for a raw, textured finish, that complements Berner’s illustrative aesthetic.
