Drowning Girl is a museum quality art print of an original painting by American pop artist Roy Lichtenstein. Roy Lichtenstein used comics as in inspiration for his works always slightly altering the original in his painstakingly painted blown up version. He even painted each individual Ben day dots used in the process of making comics to create fields of colour. This work is based on “Run for Love!,” from DC comics. Litchenstein cropped the image so the girl is alone in the wild water and changed the words from’ I don’t care if I have crap’ to the more dramatic ‘I don’t care’ he also changed the man’s name to Brad. Lichtenstein wanted to transform these mass media images in to art works with a high emotional content.
