Landscape was one of the first topics that Roy Lichtenstein turned to following his comic inspired Pop breakthrough. He was drawn to the clichéd and dated subject and appropriated this landscape from the background of a cartoon. In this work Lichtenstein used his iconic Ben Day dots, solid colour and black outlines to distil the composition down to the most basic pictorial elements.
