This piece forms part of a series of works entitled ‘The Wonders Of You’ which sees Damien Hirst revisit and return to one of his earliest and most loved motifs of the butterfly. This collection is formed of six vividly coloured Polymer Etchings, each in bright and beautiful colours. The centre of these prints can be drawn back to the artists first ever Butterfly piece made in the early 1990’s following his graduation from Goldsmith’s University. The use of the butterfly has an association with childhood and is a strong symbol of freedom as well as spiritual symbolism which was first used by the ancient Greeks. Although the subject matter of the ‘Butterfly’ is not exclusive to Hirst, he has most certainly made this image his own and it has become hugely iconic for Hirst and his career. ‘The Wonders of You’ series are an exquisite collection of works and another show stopping release from the highly influential and sought after English artist Damien Hirst.
