Born in 1928, Goings is best known for his highly detailed paintings of diners, hamburger stands, and condiments, and was part of a movement of painters of the late sixties and seventies called Photorealist. Tomato Catsup is one of a long series of paintings by Goings of condiments in Dinners he was fascinated by the different arrangements chosen by different diners and waiting staff. In this one we see the chrome napkin holder salt pepper sugar and bottle of tomato ketchup sitting on a red shinny diner table.
