Peter Blake’s ‘Union Flags’ continue the artists love affair with flags, which has continued to be a motif in his work since the 1960’s. Peter Blake states ‘I am very patriotic and I love the Union Flag the sense of history it gives, the union between four great countries that it represents’. Over the years Peter Blake has used printmaking to explore the flag in various ways from large scale digital prints from Union Flag badges or illustrations. This piece uses a variety of hand applied finishes to play with colours and textures of this familiar geometric pattern as well as celebrating the Queens 90th Birthday. ‘Union Flag Greyscale’ is signed and numbered by the artist.
