Camberwell College of Art graduate and London based illustrator Chris Keegan creates screen prints of exceptional beauty and dynamism. For Keegan, the art of print is all about “mixing the old with the new” incorporating “the explosion of technology and gadgets of the last ten years” into painterly styles to rejuvenate the tradition of the screen print. ‘When Lightning Strikes’ showcases Keegan’s extraordinary ability to merge method and media for a truly refreshing take on the art of print. With the feel of a Hokusai both in its colour palette and sense of movement ‘When Lightning Strikes’ depicts a tempestuous, electrical storm, in shades of scarlet red and bright blue, laced with black and white and finished with flashes of metallic silver. A lone figure beneath a tree lends a sense of scale and drama to the print. Buzzing and chaotic, ‘When Lightning Strikes’ beautifully captures the majesty of nature through a mastery of artifice.
