Securing your home – front and back doors

70% of burglars enter a property through the door.  If the doors in your home are not secure then your home is at risk.  Most home insurance companies insist on a minimum level of security when you apply.  If you have a claim and your home doesn’t meet the required standards they may refuse to payout.

The type of security needed will depend on the type of door that you need to secure.

Wooden Doors

External wooded doors for example should be secured using a mortice lock and / or a night latch.  Its important that these locks meet the British Standard BS3621:2007

For further personal and home security you could fit a door viewer, hinge bolts, door bolts and a door chain.  A door viewer is well worth considering if your front door is made from solid wood and you cant see who is at the door.
