Security Lights can make a big difference to the security of your home. Burglars do not like being seen and prefer quite and dark areas where they can commit their crimes with less risk of being caught. Effective security lighting will serve two purposes:
- A safer area for you so that there is less risk of tripping or falling over in the dark
- Greater security in that burglars are less likely to attempt to break in to a well lit house.
There are a number of different options available.
PIR Lighting
Passive Infra Red (PIR) lighting is ideal for security lights as the PIR monitors the temperature with in its range and switches the light on. Most PIR lights include a light level and time adjustment to ensure that the light does not come on during the day or stay on for hours wasting electricity.
Alarm activated lights
Some intruder alarms allow lights to be added so that they come on when the alarm is activated.
Dusk until dawn security lights
The photocell activates the light when the ambient light drops below a set level. These can be a cost effective solution to provide permanent lighting to an area. It’s well worth investing in low energy bulbs to ensure that you do not waste electricity.
