The art of cartography features heavily in the work of Icelandic born artist Kristjana S Williams. With a keen eye for Victorian art and illustration, Williams has mastered a blending of the old world with the new using modern printing and collage techniques, Williams reimagines the art of the past with a twenty first century flare, creating unique and strikingly beautiful prints. ‘Lulu Guiness Gold’ shows a small section of an antiquated map of London. Over the image, Williams has layered a fabulous assortment of carnivalesque, Victoriana embellishment not only familiar images from the London skyline Battersea Power Station, the London Eye but a density of flora and fauna, exotic beasts and birds, and ornamental designs in a beautiful, bright palette. The print is nothing short of exquisite, merging antiquated images with modern processes for a unique, contemporary aesthetic.
