The print is of Dan Baldwin’s large scale, apocalyptic, acrylic painting. The work is a contemporary, anti establishment interpretation of religious themes, depicting the destruction that society could bring upon itself through its continued consumerist obsession.A haloed figure can be seen taking off from earth in a space shuttle with a cuddly teddy bear he represents ‘Faith’ escaping from the enveloping earthly chaos. This piece develops ideas formed in Baldwin’s earlier series ‘The Road to Hell’ and is inspired by the legendary paintings of Hieronymus Bosch. Like the Early Netherlandish painter, Baldwin has employed detailed and fantastic imagery in his immense exploration of symbolism and narrative.
